What This Position is All About:


Senior Manager will be responsible for identifying, developing and executing customer and sales growth opportunities through the use of relevant and personalized marketing strategies. You will need to have a passion for looking at program performance metrics, identifying opportunities for improvement and leading a cross functional team to execute tests and learn plans to grow performance. In this role, you will play an integral part in both expanding capabilities within existing programs and identifying new ways for Saks Fifth Avenue to connect with our customers. The Senior Manager will be responsible for managing the P and L for individual personalization programs. You will also have the opportunity to work closely with the VP leadership level across Stores, Digital and Technology teams with consistent exposure to Leads of Data Science and Analytics teams. This role will need to have a deep understanding of CRM and customer database infrastructure and architecture to be able to escalate risks, communicate clearly and effectively with members of the personalization taskforce, and work directly with Director, DVP, and VP+ level talent throughout the organization. 

In this role, the senior manager provides leadership and serves as the ongoing business owner for personalization including business case preparation, roadmap planning, prioritization and sequencing of use cases, capital expense budget management, preparing executive presentations, coordination across cross-functional teams on work streams, and main point of contact on personalization for the Marketing organization


As the Senior Manager, you will:

  • Partner with teams across the organization to build 1:1 personalization strategies against identified opportunities - these strategies will include the use of all communication vehicles and all channels – e.g., direct mail, email, in-store offers, digital, etc 

  • Size and scope personalization program opportunities, which should include a business case, a path to growth, an execution plan, and partnership buy-in.

  • Identify and develop innovative and out-of-the-box personalization strategies in partnership with the personalization taskforce to test across customer cohorts / segments, channels and categories of business. This may include new communication approaches, content planning, cadence strategies, offer strategies, methods of offer delivery, new external partnerships, etc

  • Lead analytical, hypothesis driven approach to growing personalization programs. Live and breathe data, analytics, program performance and industry findings to develop test & learn approaches to new concepts. Iterate and improve upon past learnings to accelerate Saks’ precision marketing abilities

  • Build learning agendas, analyze results, and integrate findings into the organization for on-going execution and refinement.

  • Author presentations that serve as documentation and educational background (peek under the hood) on complex data science and machine learning models that underpin customer personalization strategies

  • Support the analytics team and VP, Analytics in project planning across all of their responsibilities (including personalization) to effectively manage Personalization roadmap deliverables and the development of required infrastructure to mitigate any risks

  • Ensure we are delivering relevant communications with every touch point that are supporting key personalization objectives, including integration with broader enterprise marketing strategies.

  • Key partner in the integration of personalization programs and new technology and capabilities.

  • Develop plans to test new functionality and identify opportunities to leverage capabilities to address / meet the unique needs of our customers.

  • Support the management of ongoing forecasting and reporting of the financial performance related to personalization programs.

  • Understand the key drivers or performance and continually identify plans to mitigate any risk.

  • Experience in utilizing personalized marketing vehicles to influence customer behavior –solid understanding of financial and operational functioning of targeted marketing vehicles

  • A passion for understanding and meeting the needs of the customer

  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to prioritize and deliver on multiple concurrent initiatives that have significant financial impact.

  • Flexible and can tolerate ambiguity and still operate effectively

  • Excellent communicator, both verbal and written, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization. Demonstrated high level of competency in working cross-functionally

  • Demonstrated capability to deliver work and provide positive leadership in fast-paced, multi-project team-oriented environment

  • Ability to manage a P&L a plus

  • Expert level understanding of the various customer databases, CRM systems, marketing automation and the latest marketing tools and technologies 

  • Demonstrated critical thinking and decision-making skills to promptly navigate obstacles, resolve issues and effectively represent and advocate for your team 

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and project management skills  

You also have:

  • 8+ years’ experience in customer growth and development, data-driven marketing, and/or strategy development in a retail, consumer packaged goods, or consulting environment

  • Familiarity with current privacy and compliance requirements related to customer/personal data (CCPA, CSTL, GDPR) 

  • Bachelor's Degree is required, MBA preferred.
