Role Summary: 
Reporting to the Associate Vice President, the Director, Senior Corporate Counsel will provide Saks with legal guidance on all contract work. In collaboration with Digital, Marketing, Tech, Merchandising and other cross-functional teams, the Director, Senior Corporate Counsel will be entrusted to provide day-to-day counsel as well as recommendations on policies/compliance protocols to protect Saks, its customers, its employees, and other third party partners.  

Key Qualifications: 

  • JD required. Member in good standing of the bar. Practicing lawyer with at least 8 years of general corporate-commercial experience; with requisite minimum of 4 years at a reputable law firm with significant experience in drafting, reviewing and negotiating various types of commercial contracts. In-house experience is a plus but not required
  • Data privacy knowledge and experience
  • Candidate must have strong communication skills; the ability to present clear and practical legal advice; the ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and to adapt quickly to changing priorities
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills combined with attention to detail and thoroughness
  • Ability to work independently, handle multiple tasks and prioritize and schedule workload with minimal supervision
  • Be team-oriented and have the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with clients, coworkers, and colleagues 
  • Ability to make reasoned decisions/recommendations and provide sound legal advice while considering the needs of the business
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and, if hired, present proof of vaccination prior to beginning employment.


Role Description: 

  • Draft, review and negotiate a wide variety of commercial agreements, including SaaS, technology, licensing, marketing, advertising, media, consulting, supply chain and other operational and vendor agreements
  • Provide strategic advice and guidance to stakeholders regarding business and legal issues and risks
  • Issue-spot sensitive legal and business concerns within complex deals and coordinate with cross-functional teams to minimize risk
  • Improve the Legal Department’s database of form agreements
  • Engage in or lead various other Legal projects
  • Provide substantive support for the rest of the Legal team on an as-needed basis
